Scott P. Kramer, Principal

Practicing family law exclusively, Scott prides himself on guiding each client through their legal issue in a manner that is both respectful and tailored to their individual situation.  That personalized guidance begins at the outset of the case, as Scott ensures that each client selects the most appropriate process for their circumstances.  With years of experience in all three main processes – Litigation, Mediation, and Collaborative – Scott can ensure that your process suits your desired solution.  Ultimately, Scott’s goal is to achieve his clients’ goals in the most effective and efficient manner.

Every year since 2014, Scott has been selected by Super Lawyers Magazine as an Illinois Rising Star.  Focusing on family law, Scott has successfully represented clients across a diverse spectrum of complex family issues such as parenting time, asset allocation, custody/decision-making authority, child support, and maintenance.  When the stakes are high and confidentiality is critical, Scott often navigates clients through out-of-court processes such as Collaborative or Mediation.  When litigation is necessary, Scott’s trial and appellate court experience provide his clients with the advocacy required to move forward during an otherwise challenging time.  Adept at both in and out of court solutions, Scott successfully completed both the National Family Law Institute’s rigorous Trial Advocacy Training Program as well as the Collaborative Skills Training Program.

In addition to his work as an attorney, Scott has an outstanding track record as a mediator in both amicable and high conflict mediations.  Scott has been engaged by couples and attorneys across Cook and Lake County to resolve their disputes in a confidential setting without necessitating judicial intervention.

Scott pursued his bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan where he graduated with highest honors and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society.  Scott then received his law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law.  During law school, Scott served as a Notes Editor for the University of Illinois Law Review and as a member of the National Frederick Green Moot Court team.  Upon graduation, Scott received the Rickert Award for Excellence in Advocacy and was named a member of the Order of the Coif national honor society.  Scott’s introduction to family law began as a law clerk for Schiller DuCanto & Fleck LLP. Scott then continued his legal career practicing complex commercial litigation at Sidley Austin LLP, until 2010, when he joined Griffin McCarthy & Rice LLP, now known as GMR Family Law LLP, and dedicated himself to representing clients across the spectrum of family law issues.

When he is not practicing law, Scott is a fierce advocate in the pediatric cancer space.  Scott and his wife, Pammy, are the Co-Founders of Dancing While Cancering, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to bringing joy to the hospital experience for children with cancer.  Scott is also the proud author of Maddie’s Miracles: A Book of Life and The Miracles That Follow: A Life of Meaning.
