Allison A. Stein, Principal

Since she started practicing law in 2001, Allison’s practice has focused on family law. Allison has handled numerous complex family law matters, including valuations of businesses, parenting disputes, the determination of the marital and non-marital estate, and the calculation of income for purposes of maintenance and child support.  She works with clients from the onset of a case to determine whether the case would be best suited for collaborative law, mediation, or litigation and has had extensive training and experience in all three arenas.  She is a strong proponent of Alternative Dispute Resolution, as she believes such methods allow for more creativity in reaching a resolution, maintain the parties’ privacy, and preserve the parties’ and their children’s best interests more efficiently and effectively.  Allison also has extensive experience drafting premarital agreements.

Allison practices in Lake and Cook Counties.  She is the partner in charge of GMR Family Law’s Lake County office in Lincolnshire.

Allison received her law degree from the University of Michigan in 2001, and her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in 1998. She began practicing law at McDermott Will & Emery in 2001, where she practiced in the area of domestic relations and family law until joining Griffin McCarthy & Rice LLP, now known as GMR Family Law LLP, as a partner in January 2009.

Each year since 2018, Allison has been named an Illinois Super Lawyer in the area of Family Law by Thomson Reuters and the publishers of Chicago Magazine. For several years prior to that, she was selected as an Illinois Rising Star in the area of Family Law. She also co-authored the IICLE article titled "Illinois Family Law: Preliminary Considerations in Dissolution Actions.”

Allison is a fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Admission to this national organization requires extensive oral and written testing, and peer and judicial recommendations.  She is also a member of the Lake County Bar Association.
